Representative Miller Elected Vice Chair of Rural Caucus

February 25, 2011

State Representative Doug Miller, representing much of the Texas Hill Country including Comal, Bandera, Kendall and Gillespie counties was elected vice chair yesterday to the Texas House Rural Caucus.  Chairman Rick Hardcastle (R-Vernon) said "I am pleased to have Representative Miller as a Vice Chairman of the Rural Caucus.  He brings regional expertise and dedication to preserving our rural communities.  At a time when rural Texas is struggling to meet its needs, it is more important than ever to have the support of members like Doug.”

In recent legislative news, Miller has attended House Appropriations hearings for the past two weeks examining how government spending can be reigned in without burdening Texans with onerous fees or taxes. To the extent that state government plays a role in getting dollars to local districts, Miller has the task of  fighting to protect jobs in education while strengthening small businesses’ ability to remain vital. Miller has already filed legislation relating to immigration reform, the Edwards Aquifer Authority, and to simplify the emergency service district tax structure for Texans.

Miller serves on the Sub-Committee on Business & Economic Development, Natural Resources and Regulatory which has been examining budgetary and staff performance standards to identify wasteful spending and redundant functions in an effort to help balance the state's budget shortfall.
