Representative Doug Miller Files His First Bill In 82nd Legislature
Representative Miller filed his first bill of the 82nd Texas Legislature, HB 591, naming a segment of Interstate Highway 10 in Kendall County the Trooper Kurt David Knapp Memorial Highway.
Trooper Kurt David Knapp was killed in the line of duty May 8, 2004 on IH 10 near Comfort, Texas. Knapp had served with the Texas Department of Safety for five years. Trooper Knapp was 28 years old and is survived by his wife and two children.
Texas Highway Patrol Chief Randall K. Elliston said, "As troopers, we all know our jobs are inherently dangerous, and we accept that danger. However, knowing and accepting that danger does not in any way lessen the pain we feel when one of our troopers is lost in the line of duty. Trooper Knapp made the ultimate sacrifice and gave his life serving the citizens of Texas."
